Sydney Metro gets $302m upgrade

The Sydney Metro has received a $302 million station upgrade at its Southwest Metro that will involve nine stations on the T3 Bankstown Line.

Firm: Ashurst (Sydney Metro) 

Deal: Ashurst has advised Sydney Metro on the construct only delivery deeds for the Southwest Metro station upgrade works. The three packages comprise Marrickville, Canterbury and Lakemba stations; Dulwich Hill, Campsie and Punchbowl stations; and Hurlstone Park, Belmore and Wiley Park stations.

Key players: The team was led by partner Harvey Weaver and was comprised of partner Krista Payne, consultant Matthew Stott, senior associates Laura Hillhouse, Andrew Higgins, Susannah Lace, Montana Linkio and lawyers Emily Mo, Thomas Darling, Cameron Griffiths, Samichhya Khadka, Lachlan Mack, Kylie Hope, Ferdous Bahar, Hamish Sutherland and Philippa Lo. 

Deal significance: The upgrade works will include upgrading and relevelling existing platforms to provide level access, new lifts at various stations, new accessible toilets, new service buildings and upgrades to security stations. 

Once completed and then incorporated into the wider Sydney Metro network, the stations will form part of the 66-kilometre Sydney Metro project. The upgraded T3 Bankstown Line is scheduled to commence metro operations in 2024 and will provide customers with a train every four minutes in each direction at peak hours. 

Mr Weaver commented: “We are delighted to have advised Sydney Metro on the Southwest Metro station upgrade which will form part of the 66km Sydney Metro project, Australia’s biggest public transport project. The Southwest Metro station upgrades will bring significant benefits to the community.”
