Matthew Shanahan and Annemarie Wilmore are the newest JWS partners, bringing with them almost four decades of combined experience and a myriad of tax expertise.

Mr Shanahan is an infrastructure and projects tax specialist, who joined from Deloitte, where he was a partner. He brings more than 22 years of experience advising large corporations on infrastructure, M&A, property, funds management, banking, tax disputes and international tax matters, gained through his experience in professional services firms and working in a leading infrastructure advisory team at an international investment bank.

Ms Wilmore specialises in tax dispute resolution, bringing 17 years of experience. She has advised on high-profile tax disputes and litigation for a range of clients, including those in the resources, technology, infrastructure and pharmaceutical sectors. She joined the firm from KPMG Law, where she was the director of its tax controversy team, and has previously worked at PwC and the ATO.

These appointments are part of the firm’s increasing focus on growing its tax team, according to JWS managing partner Jeremy Davis.

“Clients are increasingly turning to us because of the quality of our people, advice and service. We’ve also seen a shift in the market as clients are turning to independent law firms for tax advice and disputes. We’ve been steadily growing our team through strategic lateral hires,” he said.

“Annemarie and Matthew are both recognised in the market for their specialist tax expertise. Having them as part of the JWS team will give our clients additional support on their transactions and tax disputes, while positioning the firm to capitalise on a number of growth opportunities in this area.”
