Divesh Patel (pictured) has joined K&L Gates, having come across from Johnson Winter Slattery, where he served as a partner for more than five years.
He will be based in the global firm’s Sydney office and will be part of its corporate practice.
Patel is, K&L Gates outlined in a statement, dual-qualified in Australia and South Africa and regularly advises leading domestic and international clients, including private equity sponsors across a range of sectors, including transport and logistics, manufacturing, retail, FMCG, financial services, infrastructure, aviation, media, technology, and telecommunications.
This comes after the recent taking of a team of four from Holding Redlich earlier this month, the appointment of real estate partner Justin O’Callaghan and finance partner Claudine Salameh, both in January this year, as well as the firm’s appointment of a new Australian regional managing partner, Jason Opperman, in July last year.
K&L Gates now has 77 partners in Australia.
Speaking about the appointment, Opperman said: “We are delighted to welcome Divesh to the firm; his appointment further strengthens our corporate and commercial capabilities in Australia.
“It also represents our continued commitment to deliberately and strategically growing and investing in areas that are in high demand by our clients and the wider market.”
K&L Gates corporate head Chris Nikou added: “We are thrilled to have Divesh join the team, he has an outstanding reputation for his skill in corporate M&A and equity capital market transactions, which aligns perfectly with our global platform.”
