EMT Law, a legal subsidiary fully owned by EMT Partners, will join national law firm Cornwalls under its federation model.
This collaboration aims to meet the changing needs of the entertainment and sports industries, which are attracting increased investment from private equity firms and venture capitalists.
The boutique firm comprises a team of 12 individuals, including three partners, three special counsels, one senior associate, one associate, one legal support and affiliated team, one partner, and two associates.
Independent firm Cornwalls provides commercial law services and operates on a national level, serving clients in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane.
The east coast-based firm’s network also encompasses Cornwall Capital, which specialises in mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance across Asia, Europe and Australia. It also includes Neo Legal UAE, an independent law firm based in the United Arab Emirates that specialises in blockchain law, commercial law, and sports and entertainment law.
EMT Law’s affiliate partners, EMT Edwards in Sydney and EMT Burke in Los Angeles, have also become affiliated partners with Cornwalls.
The boutique also revealed that “EMT Partners’ non-legal businesses will not form part of the deal”.
The CEO of Cornwalls, Levent Shevki, expressed his enthusiasm about the newly formed partnership, underlining its potential to significantly enhance the firm’s standing as a preferred legal partner in specialised industries.
“We are excited about the future as we integrate our teams and resources. Our collective vision is to be the go-to legal partner for the most influential players in sports, entertainment, media, and technology.
“With our combined expertise, our ability to service clients in these sectors will be unparalleled,” he said.
The firms also expressed how “the EMT Law team and affiliates will drive the expansion of Cornwalls’ practice internationally in the specialist areas of entertainment, media, sports and technology”.
Trent Blacket, the co-founder of EMT Partners, echoed these sentiments: “The highly progressive, innovative and global growth plans of Cornwalls under Levent Shevki’s leadership, together with the incredible history and established national law teams domestically in Australia, make for a powerful combination.”
