National law firm Hall & Wilcox has strengthened its Commonwealth government practice with the appointment of a former general counsel and commissioned officer in the Australian Defence Force, who will lead its defence legal practice.
Steve Patrick (pictured) has joined Hall & Wilcox as a senior commercial counsel. He most recently served as head of strategy and general counsel at DMTC and has also worked as a senior liaison officer in the Prime Minister’s Office.
Patrick, the firm said in a statement, brings “extensive experience” across government, the commercial sector, defence and law, comprising legal practice, advisory and public policy development. He has, it went on, a “deep” understanding of the Commonwealth procurement framework, and his practice leverages the national resources of the Hall & Wilcox commercial arm.
The news follows the firm’s addition of partner Zeng He, from Moray & Agnew, late last year, to head up its Commonwealth government practice.
Speaking about the appointment, Hall & Wilcox chief executive partner Graydon Dowd said: “Steve’s strong regulatory, governance and commercial experience will be vital in creating value for agencies in the Defence portfolio and to the Commonwealth more broadly.”
Patrick said: “This is an important time for the Defence ecosystem – government, the private sector, and the sovereign industrial base – and I’m thrilled to be part of this service offering within a firm that has impeccable credentials and a track record of providing consistently high-quality legal services.”
