JWS – which now comprises more than 450 people, including over 85 partners, across Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra, Brisbane, and Perth – has expanded its energy and resources ranks with the appointment of partner Tom Fotheringham (pictured).

He will be based in the firm’s Brisbane office.

Fotheringham has, JWS noted in a statement, “extensive” energy and resources experience working across mining, oil and gas, electricity, and renewables projects, including solar, wind, pumped hydro, batteries, compressed air, liquid air, and hydrogen.

The news follows the firm’s addition of safety partner Alena Titterton from Clyde & Co in February, its appointment of two senior associates from Corrs Chambers Westgarth, who are joining as a partner and special counsel in November, hire of a banking and finance partner from Baker McKenzie in October, a TMT partner from HSF in August, and a special counsel for its real estate in the same month.

Speaking about the appointment, JWS managing partner Jeremy Davis said: “Tom is renowned for his commercial and strategic approach to negotiating deals across the energy and resources sector and, in particular, has unique experience in the renewables space.

“He will make an outstanding addition to our market-leading energy and resources team.”

Fotheringham said: “JWS has an outstanding reputation in the market for energy, resources, and project development work.

“I am very much looking forward to joining the team and, in particular, working with them to assist clients with their renewable and clean energy needs and to navigate the energy transition.”
