Continuing to add headcount to its Canberra office, Maddocks has appointed construction lawyer Larissa Toozoff as a new partner.

Toozoff joins the firm from Ashurst, where she was a partner in its projects and energy transition practice. She brings more than 20 years of experience to her new role, as well as expertise in developing project delivery models, procurement strategies, supporting contract negotiations and advising on all aspects of contract administration, particularly in a government context.

“I’ve long admired Maddocks for its outstanding service to its government clients,” Toozoff said.

“With its renowned reputation in Commonwealth government work particularly, a well-established real estate practice, and a rich history of advising government entities nationally, I’m truly excited to be joining such a distinguished firm.”

This comes after the firm added two special counsel to its government practice in Canberra in March, as well as the appointment of a special counsel in Sydney in February, the firm’s addition of a partner for its employment practice in January, and the hiring of a partner to lead its competition law practice in December.

Maddocks CEO David Newman said that Toozoff’s experience would be valuable for the government practice in Canberra.

“Larissa’s significant experience in working alongside Australian government entities will greatly enhance our leading government law team in Canberra. Her track record in advising on major government construction and infrastructure projects reflects her deep understanding of public sector needs and dedication to delivering high-quality solutions,” he said.

“I have no doubt that Larissa will further strengthen our capacity to meet the increasingly complex needs of our clients across the government sector.”

Commonwealth sector leader Simonetta Astolfi added that she was “delighted that Larissa will join Maddocks and our team in Canberra”.

“Her proven ability to build strong client relationships and her commitment to delivering superior, practical solutions will enhance Maddocks’ capabilities in the construction and infrastructure legal services, particularly for our Commonwealth and ACT government clients, and mean our team has the depth and breadth to support them on the full range of their projects,” she said.
