Global law firm Clyde & Co has added seven special counsel to its ranks (five promoted, two hired) and welcomed back a former partner to serve as its head out west.
Clyde & Co has elevated five lawyers to special counsel in Australia: Kelly MacDonald in Melbourne and Hugh Irvine, Nicole McConochie, Mitchell Jensen, and Mica Cole in Sydney.
The promotions are a “huge achievement”, the firm noted, and recognises the deep expertise and ongoing contribution each makes to clients’ success.
“We’re excited to see how you continue to grow and shape the future of Clyde & Co,” the firm said in a LinkedIn post.
“These promotions represent the next generation of leadership within the firm and reflect our commitment to nurturing a diverse range of talent across the regions and sectors we operate within.”
The promotions were effective as of 1 May.
The firm also noted that it is “thrilled” to welcome back Hugo Thomas and Kyle Bowles, who have returned to Clyde & Co in Australia as special counsel.
Having both recently served in-house, Thomas will handle casualty matters, including catastrophic injury claims and professional indemnity claims, with a focus on insurance brokers, while Bowles will work in the construction professional indemnity team.
“Great to have you back on board, Hugo and Kyle,” the firm said online.
Thornton’s appointment marks her return to the firm, having served almost five years as a partner before practising as a barrister at Quayside Chambers in Perth for seven years.
The news follows the appointment of award-winning boutique principal Simone Herbert-Lowe as a partner in the firm’s cyber practice last month, as well as its appointment of Jenny Thornton (also pictured) as the managing partner in its Perth office last August.
