A private equity and corporate lawyer has moved over to Squire Patton Boggs, where he was also made partner in its corporate practice group.
James Nguyen moved over from Allens to take up the role of private equity and corporate partner at Squire Patton Boggs’ Sydney office.
Commenting on the new hire, Squire Patton Boggs’ head of corporate Australia, Tony Chong, said Nguyen forms part of the firm’s strategy to establish “a leading private equity practice in Sydney”.
“With the growing level of private capital in the Australian economy, we see a real opportunity to develop our services in this space.
“James has strong relationships with domestic private equity funds, and he will also work closely with the global team to leverage connections and expand our work with international investors,” he said.
Nguyen has over 10 years of experience across Australia and in his New York secondment with Simpson Thacher & Bartlett.
He is experienced across private capital and has experience in all types of mergers and acquisitions, including private and public transactions, as well as private capital matters that include consortium arrangements, warranty and indemnity insurance, and management equity plans.
Nguyen said he was “hugely excited” about the new role.
“What the firm has achieved in recent years through the expansion of its global private equity practice is impressive.
“I am looking forward to being part of its genuinely collaborative team and building a practice in Australia reflective of its integrated and distinctive market offering,” Nguyen said.
Graeme Slattery, Sydney office managing partner, said that with Nguyen’s depth of knowledge and experience, he will be a “considerable asset”.
“We are delighted that he has chosen to join our team,” Slattery said.
