After 18 years at BigLaw firm Baker McKenzie, Ben Burke has joined Sparke Helmore as a partner in its workplace team.

He has extensive experience in advising and representing clients on work health and safety, workplace relations, employment and litigation matters and represents clients in disputes in federal, state, and territory courts and tribunals and the Fair Work Commission, as well as across many industry sectors, including renewable energy, aviation, defence, transport and logistics, rail, mining services, government, pharmaceutical, information technology, retail and manufacturing.

Burke was most recently a partner at Baker McKenzie, where he worked for more than 18 years.

“I am pleased to commence the next phase of my career with Sparke Helmore. It was important for me to join a firm known for its culture of collaboration and collegiality and one with a clearly defined strategy for growth and success,” he said.

“I look forward to working alongside a team renowned for their expertise and strengthening the firm’s offerings in work health and safety, workplace relations and employment, both in Melbourne and nationally.”

This news comes after the addition of a corporate and commercial partner from Mills Oakley earlier this month and a merger with a Queensland boutique in April, as well as the promotion of CTP and casualty insurance lawyer Lauren McHugh to its partnership in late January.

National practice group leader for the workplace team Catherine Wilkinson said Burke’s addition would support continued growth in the space.

“Ben’s reputation is strong, and he brings a wealth of expertise and leadership to the firm. His addition to our national team supports our continued growth and expansion of our workplace practice,” she said.
