Attorney-General Michael Daley has congratulated two highly experienced barristers on their appointments to the Supreme Court of NSW’s bench.
Edward Muston SC and James Emmett SC were appointed judges of the NSW Supreme Court.
Muston has more than two decades of experience at the Bar, spanning commercial and insurance matters, as well as the law of obligation.
He has contributed to legal education and regulation through teaching and advisory roles.
Emmett has practised across public and administrative law, commercial litigation, professional negligence and maritime law.
He is a member of the NSW Bar Council and the Australian National Maritime Museum Council, as well as a lecturer at the University of Sydney.
“I congratulate these practitioners on their well-deserved appointments, which will contribute to the Supreme Court’s proud traditions of independence and excellence,” Daley said.
Meanwhile, Justice Natalie Adams will move into the roles of judge of appeal and Chief Judge of the Common Law Division, succeeding the new acting justice and acting judge of appeal, Justice Ian Harrison.
Justice Adams has served on the Supreme Court bench since 2016.
Before that, Justice Adams worked for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Legal Aid Commission, and Crown Solicitors’ Office.
She has also conducted jury trials across the state and has served as NSW Crown Advocate from 2011.
“Muston, Emmett and Justice Adams are highly regarded for their intellect and integrity, while Justice Adams has a record of outstanding service and leadership on the bench,” Daley said.
“I thank Justice Harrison for his 18 years of distinguished service, including the past two years as Chief Judge of the Common Law Division.”
