Lisa Quilty (pictured) has joined Maddocks as a special counsel in the firm’s Canberra office, bolstering its public law practice.

In a statement, the national law firm shared that the appointment underscores its ongoing investment in Canberra and will enhance its capabilities in litigation, dispute resolution, and public law.

With more than 20 years of experience, Quilty brings extensive expertise in dispute resolution, having acted for insurers, private corporations, and government clients across multiple Australian jurisdictions.

Over the course of her two-decade career, her practice has spanned claims management, insurance, public and product liability, workers’ compensation, commercial disputes, professional indemnity, and medical negligence.

Before joining Maddocks, she served as a partner at national law firm Mills Oakley in their Canberra office, a role she held for more than two years.

Quilty has also worked with international law firm King & Wood Mallesons for over 11 years, serving as both a senior associate and special counsel.

In addition to her legal work, Quilty is actively engaged in the local legal community and was recently elected vice president of the ACT Law Society.

Rosalie Byrne, dispute resolution and litigation partner at Maddocks, highlighted how Quilty’s expertise in both litigation and pre-litigation processes would bolster the firm’s public law capabilities.

“Maddocks is excited to welcome Lisa Quilty to the team,” Byrne said.

“Her cross-jurisdictional experience and ability to navigate both litigation and pre-litigation processes make her a valuable asset to the firm and our clients, further strengthening our commitment to excellence in public law and client service.”

Speaking about her new role, Quilty expressed her enthusiasm for joining Maddocks and contributing to the firm’s well-established public law practice in the nation’s capital.

“I am delighted to be joining a firm with a significant Canberra offering and strong public law practice,” Quilty said.

“I look forward to working with a team that shares my commitment to delivering high-quality, strategic legal advice that supports the important work of our clients and the legal profession.”
