National law firm Moray & Agnew has added another partner to its ranks, joining over 120 partners and a total staff of over 800 people across seven Australian offices. The government team has seen recent expansion, with partner Max Gao and special counsel Tegan Weir and Marian Morton joining late last year.

Thompson has appeared as a solicitor advocate in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, the Federal Court of Australia, and the Administrative Review Tribunal.

She departed HWL Ebsworth Lawyers, where she was special counsel and then partner, and before that, acted as managing associate at Carina Ford Immigration Lawyers for over six years.

National managing partner Ian Denham praised Thompson’s “track record advising Commonwealth clients on high-stakes litigation and review matters”, adding: “her appointment further strengthens our government capability nationally”.

Thompson brings experience in representing agencies and government clients across judicial and merits review matters, as well as immigration, disability, child support, and freedom of information matters.

She expressed excitement about joining and building the firm’s “highly regarded government practice”, adding: “The firm’s national platform and growing depth across administrative law will allow me to deliver even greater value services to public sector clients.”

Managing partner of the Melbourne offices, Bill Papastergiadis, said: “We look forward to Sarah’s valuable contribution as we continue to grow our public law expertise in Melbourne, Sydney, and nationally.”
