Global firm Jones Day has appointed three new partners-in-charge to its Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne offices.
Jones Day has named three new partners-in-charge: John Cooper in Sydney, Annie Leeks in Brisbane, and Niv Tadmore in Melbourne.
Partner-in-charge of Australia, Chris Lovrien, said the new leadership appointments “demonstrate the firm’s continued investment in Australia and our sustained commitment to serving clients on their most complex matters across key industries and markets”.
Cooper, a leading construction and infrastructure lawyer, originally served as partner-in-charge of Brisbane. He has taken over from Chris Ahern, who remains in the role of partner-in-charge of Japan.
Working across some of Australia’s largest projects in transport, energy and resources, defence, and social infrastructure, Cooper has represented owners, contractors and consultants in superior courts, arbitrations, expert determinations and statutory adjudications.
Leeks has succeeded Cooper in the Brisbane office, where she will continue to focus on high-stakes litigation and arbitration across mining, energy, technology, financial services, aviation and construction sectors. She has a particular focus in energy with cross-border operations in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
Prior to joining Jones Day, Leek was lead legal counsel and privacy officer at a major airline and has practised at major law firms in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia.
Tadmore, a widely recognised tax controversy lawyer, has represented multinationals in disputes concerning the taxation of intangibles and the digital economy, transfer pricing, international tax and tax treaties, energy and resources, and the operation of anti-avoidance powers in cross-border settings.
He is president of the Australian branch of the International Fiscal Association and was founding chair of the global IFA supervisory board. He also served on key Australian taxation and federal treasury committees for dispute resolution and large business stewardship.
Tadmore takes over from Lisa Taliadoros, who will continue to serve clients as a senior IP partner.
“We will continue to add talent and expand in areas where clients’ needs are intensifying – complex disputes, cross-border transactions, energy, critical infrastructure, competition and regulatory enforcement, and taxation,” Lovrien said.
“And we will continue to identify and invest in the next generation of leaders. In Australia and across the globe, Jones Day is building enduring client relationships, delivering outcomes that matter, and strengthening the culture and values that have been the foundation of the firm for more than 125 years.”
