The addition at Sparke Helmore follows a series of key promotions this year.
Long-time Sparke Helmore practitioner Laura Beattie has been promoted to partner, in what has been described as a “career milestone” by one colleague.
First joining Sparke Helmore 12 years ago as special counsel, Beattie worked in the statutory lines insurance practice, managing compensation claims on behalf of self-insurers and special insurers across the Personal Injury Commission, the District Court of NSW, the Supreme Court of NSW, the Dust Disease Tribunal, and the NSW Court of Appeal.
In total, she has 25 years of experience as a workers’ compensation practitioner, bringing significant experience in advocacy and negotiation.
Laura has advised on liability issues relating to injury, causation, incapacity, and entitlements, and conducted the defence on claims, injury damages, common law matters and scheme-significant matters.
On the promotion, the firm’s statutory lines insurance practice group leader James Johnson said: “She is an exceptionally talented lawyer, recognised as a leader in her field of law, and highly regarded by her clients.”
Beattie began the position on 1 March, and is based in the national law firm’s Sydney office.
