Mills Oakley has appointed three partners across key practice areas in a move to strengthen its bench in high-demand sectors and further deepen its national capabilities.

The new partners from the national law firm include Kym Fraser (government, Sydney), John Boyagi (taxation, Sydney), and Jonathan Nguyen (workplace relations, employment and safety, Melbourne).

With close to three decades of experience in public law and commercial litigation, Fraser has acted for government agencies, universities and private sector clients.

Before joining the national law firm, he spent 23 years as a partner with Clayton Utz, where he was involved in a series of major public inquiries and royal commissions.

Boyagi specialises in tax controversy and dispute resolution, advising multinational corporations, listed companies and high-net-worth individuals on complex Australian tax matters, including audits, regulatory negotiations and court proceedings.

He has held a number of roles across international law firms, most recently serving as special counsel at Mallesons for seven years, as well as senior manager at PwC Australia and senior associate at Hall & Wilcox.

Bringing more than 25 years of experience, Nguyen returns to Mills Oakley, advising employers, employees and unions across a broad range of industrial relations and employment law matters.

His work spans sectors, including banking, manufacturing, aged care, and retail, with a focus on managing workplace disputes, compliance and organisational change.

John Nerurker, the CEO of Mills Oakley, shared how the firm was delighted to welcome the three partners, noting that their combined expertise across their respective practice areas would significantly strengthen its national offering.

“We are delighted to welcome Kym, John and Jonathan to the Mills Oakley partnership. Each is a recognised leader in their field and brings deep experience advising clients on complex and high-stakes matters,” Nerurker said.

“Kym’s standing in public and government litigation, John’s expertise in complex tax disputes, and Jonathan’s depth of experience in workplace relations significantly strengthen our national offering.

“Jonathan’s return to the firm also reflects the strong relationships we build with our people. These recent appointments reinforce our commitment to investing in our core practice areas and delivering market-leading, commercially focused advice to our clients.”
