National law firm Holding Redlich has made two senior hires as it moves to strengthen its capability in tax advisory, tax controversy, and dispute resolution.
Michael Patane will join Holding Redlich as a partner, and Eli Bursky will take on the role of special counsel, as the national firm looks to support clients during a time of increased and complex regulation.
Previously at the Australian Taxation Office as deputy chief tax counsel, Patane brings advisory experience to government, multinational corporations, private groups, charities, and high-net-worth individuals.
Guiding matters in the Administrative Review Tribunal and the Federal Court, he holds knowledge in tax advisory and trust law matters, including corporate restructures, estate planning, tax litigation, GST, and complex operational and property disputes.
Bursky has advised on direct and indirect tax matters, including mergers and acquisitions, restructures, transaction financing, tax disputes, and employee share schemes. He has previously worked at the Australian Government Solicitor and for the Commissioner of Taxation.
The addition of Bursky and Patane brings Holding Redlich’s tax team to 12.
On the appointments, partner Dhanushka Jayawardena said: “Their combined experience across tax advisory, disputes, and litigation further strengthens our ability to support our clients engaging with revenue authorities and managing complex and large-scale tax matters on a national level.”
Patane said: “Clients are increasingly seeking advisers who understand both the technical, procedural, and practical aspects of dealing with the various taxation laws, revenue authorities, and resolving disputes efficiently.”
