Ahead of its class action against fast-food giant McDonald’s, Shine Lawyers has hired a new practice leader.
Lisa Gallate has been appointed practice leader at a time of pivotal growth across Shine Lawyers’ class action practice.
Her first trial commenced on Tuesday, 26 May, against McDonald’s for allegedly denying workers 10-minute rest breaks during shifts, which they were entitled to under the McDonald’s Australian Enterprise Agreement 2013 and Fast-Food Industry Award 2010.
As practice leader, Gallate will play a key role in shaping the next phase of growth by leading high-performing teams, strengthening capability, and ensuring the firm continues to deliver strategic, client-first advocacy across an expanding portfolio of matters.
Head of class actions Craig Allsopp said Gallate brings “deep expertise, strong leadership and a genuine commitment to achieving meaningful outcomes for clients”.
“Her appointment strengthens our ability to deliver on increasingly complex and large-scale class actions, both domestically and internationally.
“As demand for collective redress grow[s], we are focused on building the depth and capability of our team to take on a broader range of matters. Lisa’s a great fit for this growth plan,” Allsop added.
Gallate said Shine Lawyers has a “well-earned reputation for taking on complex, high-stakes matters and delivering results that make a real difference”.
“With the firm expanding into international mass torts and preparing to commence a new wave of domestic and cross-border class actions, this is a unique opportunity to help shape the strategy and direction of matters from the outset while contributing to work that is both intellectually challenging and socially meaningful,” Gallate said.
