Moray & Agnew has expanded its national footprint with the launch of its first formal Tasmanian office, establishing a presence in the heart of Hobart.

The national law firm has described this move as “another considered step” in the evolution of its national growth strategy.

The news comes after the firm lost a 12-strong team, which included a partner, special counsel, two associates, five paralegals, and three administrative staff, to national rival Sparke Helmore Lawyers in mid-April.

The opening of the Tasmanian office marks the eighth location for Moray & Agnew across Australia, adding Hobart to its established national network spanning Brisbane, Cairns, Canberra, Melbourne, Newcastle, Perth, and Sydney.

Moray & Agnew shared that the opening of the Hobart office was driven by rising client demand and is designed to deepen its support for clients already operating across Tasmania, enhancing its ability to deliver more responsive, locally grounded legal services.

While the Hobart office represents a formalised presence, the firm has long been active in the Tasmanian market, having advised clients in the region for many years, laying the foundation for a more permanent foothold in the state.

The national law firm has indicated that its Tasmanian team will be supported by its wider national network, allowing clients to access a broader depth of expertise while benefiting from local engagement.

Ian Denham, national managing partner at Moray & Agnew, shared that the expansion reflects the natural evolution of the firm’s client relationships in the state.

“Tasmania represents a natural extension of our existing work and relationships, and we are confident it will strengthen both our client offering and our national footprint,” Denham said.
