Australian BigLaw firm Clayton Utz has elevated five senior lawyers to its partnership, strengthening its leadership bench across key practice areas.
Clayton Utz has expanded its partnership with the appointment of five new partners across key practice areas, effective 1 July 2026.
The newly appointed partners are Mariam Azzo (corporate transactions, Sydney), Lisa Houston (M&A and corporate advisory, Brisbane), Sarah Jones (public sector advisory and disputes, Canberra), Sheena McKie (commercial litigation, Sydney), and Jonathon McRostie (restructuring and insolvency, Melbourne).
The BigLaw firm’s latest partnership cohort spans four offices across Australia, with the new partners based in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Canberra.
The appointments further strengthen the firm’s leadership across key practice areas, spanning corporate transactions, public sector advisory, and disputes.
Speaking on the promotions, Clayton Utz chief executive partner Emma Covacevich said they reflect the lawyers’ strong track record in handling complex client matters and the trust they have built over years of high-quality work.
“Each of these five lawyers brings a genuine commitment to solving complex problems for our clients. Their promotion to the partnership recognises years of exceptional work and the trust they have earned from the people and organisations they advise,” Covacevich said.
Covacevich shared that the diversity of experience and practice areas within the new partner cohort reflects the firm’s broader strengths.
“What stands out about this group is the diversity of their experience – from advising on transformative transactions and navigating regulatory frameworks in the aviation and infrastructure sectors, to pioneering work in impact investing and managing high-stakes disputes,” Covacevich said.
“That breadth is a hallmark of our firm and our partnership.
“I congratulate Mariam, Lisa, Sarah, Sheena, and Jonathon on this exciting step in their careers. It’s a pleasure to welcome them to the partnership.”
