In a record-breaking promotions round, national law firm Barry Nilsson has elevated 30 professionals, marking the largest cohort of internal promotions in the firm’s history.
Barry Nilsson has unveiled the largest promotions round in its history, elevating 30 professionals across its Australian offices in a milestone moment for the national law firm.
Within the record-breaking round, two practitioners have been elevated to principal, three to special counsel, six to senior associate, and 16 to associate.
Of the 26 legal promotions announced, all but one were drawn from the firm’s insurance practice, with the remaining appointment coming from its family law team.
The promotions extend beyond the firm’s legal practice, with three professionals from its insurance and health, family law, and business services teams also advancing into key leadership roles.
These appointments include promotions to billing team leader, people and culture manager, and marketing and communications manager.
These professionals will assume their new roles from 1 July 2026.
The record-breaking promotion round has contributed to Barry Nilsson’s national headcount increasing by “almost 25 per cent” over the past 12 months.
Barry Nilsson’s newly appointed principals are Natalie Aprea (insurance, Sydney) and Stephanie Carter (insurance, Sydney), with these appointments bringing the firm’s total number of principals to 47.
With more than 15 years of litigation experience, Aprea brings deep expertise across medical negligence, professional conduct matters, and complex disputes spanning the health and insurance sectors.
Having been with the firm for nearly two years, Carter has developed extensive experience in insurance-related litigation, including public liability claims, product disputes, policy interpretation issues, and management liability matters.
Speaking about the promotions, Peter Murdoch, chair and insurance and health principal for Barry Nilsson, noted how they reflect both the depth of talent within the firm and its long-term commitment to developing careers from within.
“The past 12 months have been a period marked by immense growth for the firm, and it is pleasing to see our people stepping into new roles and opportunities that are reflective of the future direction of the firm,” Murdoch said.
“As our largest promotion round to date, this marks an important milestone for the firm and reflects the momentum we have built in recent months, while strengthening the team that will help shape the firm’s future.”
