Sarah Barker has joined Allens, bringing with her over two and a half decades of experience advising boards, companies, and investors on governance, disclosure, and liability risks. She is, the BigLaw firm said in a statement, a globally recognised climate change lawyer and a leading authority on climate and sustainability risk governance, who works closely with boards and executive teams across a range of sectors, including banking and financial services, superannuation, mining and resources, infrastructure and development, supporting clients as they navigate evolving regulatory frameworks and the introduction of mandatory climate-related financial disclosures. She is known for her pragmatic, commercially grounded approach, informed by deep experience advising at the intersection of law, governance, and strategy.

The appointment builds on the firm’s corporate ESG and governance advisory offerings and enhances its ability to support clients with integrated, cross-disciplinary advice, Allens noted.

Barker has brought with her four team members from Pollination Law: counsel Phoebe Roberts, senior associates Will Richards and Lucy Sanderson, and insights consultant Kate Hilder.

She and her team commenced at the BigLaw firm on 1 July.

Allens partner and head of climate change Jillian Button said the firm is “delighted” to welcome Barker.

“Sarah brings exceptional expertise in climate and sustainability governance, with a rare combination of technical excellence, strategic insight, and boardroom experience. She is widely recognised as a market-leading practitioner, and her appointment reflects our continued investment in the capabilities our clients need as governance and disclosure frameworks continue to evolve,” she said.

“Critically, she complements our existing ESG capability and strengthens our ability to deliver integrated advice [to] clients in complex governance, transactional, and contentious matters.”
