A barrister specialising in criminal law and a Crown prosecutor have been appointed judges of the District Court of NSW.
NSW Attorney-General Michael Daley announced the appointments of Jillian Kelton and Adam Williams to the state’s District Court.
“Both bring extensive experience and are highly credentialed, and their expertise will be of great value to the court,” Daley said.
“I thank Kelton and Williams for agreeing to serve the people of New South Wales in these important roles, and I wish them every success on the bench.”
Kelton brings three decades of legal experience to the bench, chiefly with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), where she was appointed Crown prosecutor in 2018.
Her work duties have taken her to the District Court numerous times, including matters such as manslaughter, sexual assault, conspiracy, drug-related crimes, and domestic violence offences.
Kelton also conducted the pre-recording of children’s evidence in the Child Sexual Offence Evidence Program and prosecuted institutional child sexual abuse cases and crimes involving outlaw motorcycle gangs.
In addition to her work with courts, Kelton provides teaching modules to police, including charging considerations and conducting interviews with children in sexual assault matters.
Williams, who brings more than three decades of legal expertise to the bench, has a career that spans criminal and civil matters.
Admitted in 2002, Williams is in full-time practice as a barrister specialising in criminal law.
He is also known for his work ethic and enjoyment of a challenge, having appeared in numerous complex criminal trials across the state.
Kelton and Williams will be sworn in on 20 July 2026.
