Mallesons Stephen Jaques has acted for Telstra on its deal with NBN Co to assist with the establishment of the national broadband network.

If completed, the deal will deliver a value of around $11 billion to Telstra.

NBN Co will pay Telstra for the decommissioning of its fixed line broadband networks, and the network will be rolled out using Telstra's duct and backhaul infrastructure, allowing full access to critical 4G spectrum auctions.

The Commonwealth Government, advised by Blake Dawson, has agreed to certain regulatory changes, including the removal of universal service costs from Telstra.

The Melbourne-led Mallesons team was required to advise Telstra on a complex mix of commercial, technical and regulatory issues.

The team, including partners Neil Carabine, Renae Lattey, Luke Waterson and Justin Cherrington, has provided advice to Telstra in regards to the national broadband landscape since 2005.
