Mallesons Stephen Jaques has announced it is acting for CSIRO on its partnering with China United Coalbed Methane Corporation Limited (CUCBM) on a $10 million joint demonstration project.

The project will involve storing 2000 tonnes of carbon dioxide underground in China's Shanxi Province and the extraction of methane for use as an energy source.

The Mallesons team is being led by partners Scott Bouvier in Sydney and Nicholas Groffman in Beijing, working closely with Robyn Tait from CSIRO's legal team.

Emma Croft and Nancy Zhao are the key Mallesons associates involved in the deal.

Scott Bouvier said of the transaction: "This deal is a very significant project for the co-operation between Australia and China in the development of low emissions coal technology."
