Mallesons Stephen Jaques is acting for Focus Minerals on its takeover bid for Crescent Gold. The deal between the two West Australian Goldfields-focused companies will create a $460 million mid-tier miner.

The takeover is recommended by the Crescent board and Focus has a pre-bid agreement with a major shareholder for 19.9 per cent of the shares in Crescent.

The Mallesons team is being led by partners David Perks and Jason Watts, senior associate Alexei Fedotov and solicitor Sakhawat Kabir. Blakiston & Crabb acted for Crescent.

Mallesons is also acting on Origin's EUR500 million high equity notes issue.

The team was led by partners Ian Paterson, Shannon Finch and Evie Bruce.

Finch said of the deal: "The deal was significant because it is a relatively innovative instrument - an Australian preference share structured to mimic a European note, and to be listed on London Stock Exchange."
