Henry Davis York has advised New York-based hedge fund Orange Capital on its investment in the Charter Hall Office REIT.

An Orange Capital-led group of unitholders has acquired a 19 per cent stake in the Charter Hall fund which has around $3.6 billion of assets under investment.

Partners James Lonie and Robert Tracy advised in the deal along with special counsel Christina Seppelt and senior associate Naomi Philp.

Orange Capital has called an extraordinary meeting, to be held on 27 July, to vote on whether to elect Moss Capital as the trust's new responsible entity. Chairman of Moss Capital Bill Moss is a former director of Macquarie Bank and led the IPO of the Charter Hall Office REIT under its original name of Macquarie Office Trust.

"This proposal has attracted an incredible amount of interest and will be closely watched by fund managers with funds trading at significant discounts to their net tangible assets," said Lonie.
