Allen & Overy Perth is advising on a $US 400 million ($378 million) mining acquisition.

The firm is advising Global Advanced Metals (GAM), a tantalum concentrate producer, on its acquisition of Cabot Corps(CBT) Supermetals business.

Teams from A&O's Perth, New York and Tokyo offices are advising on all aspects of the transaction, led by Perth partner Peter Wilkes.

Global materials company Cabot was advised by international firm Jones Day.

The agreement, announced on 25 August, is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to be completed by the end of 2011.

The acquisition of Cabot Supermetal's tantalum plants in Pennsylvania and Japan will bolster GAM's existing Western Australian operations and transform it into a vertically integrated tantalum mining company.
