INSURANCE SPECIALIST Chern Tan has been promoted to partner in Minter Ellison’s Sydney office.
Having been with the firm since 2000, Tan has significant expertise in professional indemnity, directors and officers indemnity, and product and public liability claims. He has acted in several major matters, most recently in a Supreme Court claim against professional advisers who advised an international reinsurance company in relation to its prospectus.
In the area of professional indemnity, Tan’s experience covers financial advisers, engineers and medical professionals, along with defending class actions. His clients include AMP, Westpac General Insurance, St Paul Insurance and Macquarie Underwriting.
Head of the insurance and corporate risk practice in Sydney, Pam Madafiglio, said the appointment reflects the firm’s continuing investment in its reputation as leaders in the insurance sector in Australia.
“For many years, Minter Ellison has provided a full service to major insurers in Australia and offshore,” Madafiglio said. “Amongst the national firms, our award winning and strong national insurance practice of 20-plus partners and 70-plus lawyers is probably unique.
“[Tan’s] promotion recognises his enormous talent and the wonderful contribution he has already made to the success of the practice.”
Prior to joining Minters, Tan worked at Hickson Wisewoulds in the insurance and commercial litigation group and also at Mallesons Stephen Jaques in insurance and litigation. He holds an LLB (Hons) from the University of Western Australia and an MBA from the Macquarie Graduate School of Management.
