John Elias (finance) is also a regular presenter to the Australian Financial Markets Association and lecturer for a number of post-graduate legal courses. Nicole Green (construction, engineering and infrastructure) focuses on high-profile infrastructure developments (including toll roads) and large-scale developments such as Sydney’s King Street Wharf. Paul Paxton (finance) has more than 10 years experience as a projects, PPP and finance specialist in Australia and the UK.
On the Gold Coast: Hamish Broadbent (insurance and corporate risk) has experience in Sydney and Auckland firms, and with New Zealand’s Ministry of Health. Michelle Pennicott (environment and planning) is also an adjunct Assistant Professor at Bond University, lecturing in planning and development law.
In Adelaide: Mark Calligeros (workers compensation) has practised in the workers compensation area in South Australia for 20 years before compensation courts and tribunals and also the High Court. In Melbourne: Ben Liu (corporate, private equity and capital markets) is currently representing CCMP Capital Asia in their joint acquisition of the Godfreys Group.
In Canberra: Debra Tippett (corporate, commercial and regulatory) does strategic advisory and commercial work for Commonwealth Government agencies and the IT industry. In Brisbane: Shane Evans (health, insurance and corporate risk) focuses on malpractice claims, incident investigation and inquests and disciplinary actions. Andrew Rentoul (corporate) spent seven years as a partner of Blake Dawson Waldron and most recently as head of BDW’s Brisbane corporate practice. Simon Scott (resources, energy and major projects) spent four years with leading international law firms in London before returning to Minter Ellison in 2003.
Minter Ellison simultaneously named 11 new special counsel and 41 new senior associates.
In announcing the appointments, Minter Ellison chief executive Guy Templeton said he was delighted to acknowledge the talent and drive of these high-calibre lawyers. “Eleven of the thirteen new partners are internal promotions and it has been particularly satisfying to be able to grow our partner base largely from within. It shows the quality and depth of talent in the firm,” he said. “But we’ve also made some high-profile laterals appointments . . . from Australian and international top-tier firms, including Baker & McKenzie, Blake Dawson Waldron, Simmons & Simmons and Richards Butler.”
