Mitchell Hardy is Barry & Nilsson’s newest associate. Hardy joined Barry & Nilsson in July 2000 as a junior insurance lawyer. Prior to joining the firm, Hardy acted for many years as a claims consultant with a major insurer. His practice has focused on acting for local councils in a broad range of public liability and professional indemnity claims. The quality of his work together with his commitment to the firm’s clients led to Hardy’s appointment.
Simmons & Simmons has appointed Jack H. Su as a foreign legal consultant in the firm’s corporate practice in Hong Kong. He was previously special attorney with Shearman & Sterling and a former senior vice president and counsel for Vivendi Water Asia Pty Ltd. Su has spent the past decade working on several significant power and water projects in China, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam, totalling more than US$2 ($2.59) billion in investment and financing in both the power and water/wastewater sectors.
Tony de Govrik has joined Middletons Lawyers as special counsel in its corporate and commercial group in Sydney. De Govrik is a senior corporate lawyer with a strong background in the securities industry, having worked for both the Australian and London Stock Exchanges for a number of years and more recently acting for many corporations in fund raising activities and stock exchange listings. For the last three years, he was national president of the Australian Corporate Lawyers Association.
Maddocks has appointed two new partners to its construction and major projects group. Josh Marchant will be based in the firm’s Melbourne office. He advises on construction and related contracts, risk mitigation strategies for project delivery, construction building disputes and public-private partnerships. He joins the firm from Clayton Utz. Keith Redenbach will operate from Maddocks’ Sydney office. He specialises in dispute resolution and contract review and administration within the construction, insurance, engineering and infrastructure sectors. Redenbach was previously at Minter Ellison.
Robert Severino has been appointed as a senior associate at the Sydney office of Ebsworth & Ebsworth Lawyers, starting from the beginning of this month. He specialises in financial product distribution, managed investments, life insurance, and compliance and has had significant involvement in advising corporate superannuation fund trustees on successor fund transfers to master trusts, as well as advising clients on the licensing and product disclosure requirements of the Financial Services Reform Act 2001. He previously held legal and compliance roles at Tyndall Australian Casualty & Life and Zurich. Julia Best and Malcolm Graham were promoted to senior associate, also in the Sydney office, effective from the beginning of this month. Best’s practice focuses on regulatory and commercial advice work, primarily for general insurers and reinsurers. She also lectures in law at the University of Wollongong and teaches a paralegal’s course at Gymea TAFE, NSW. Graham practises in the areas of medical malpractice and public liability claims. He advises and acts for major insurers and local councils in the defence of public liability and professional indemnity claims.
