Clayton Utz partner Hiroyuki Kano has been elected president of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Brisbane (JCCIB).

Kano will head up the JCCIB board of directors which comprises seven other leading Japanese business representatives.

Kano is the only Japanese qualified Bengoshi lawyer (one of three legal qualifications in Japan) practising as a partner in an Australian law firm. He is based in Clayton Utz's Brisbane office, and works alongside partner Andrew Hay who heads up the firm's Japan Practice, which specialises in Japan-Australia investment.

JCCIB is the peak Japanese business body in Brisbane, comprising a number of large Japanese corporations and organisations. Only Japanese expatriates are eligible for a seat on the JCCIB board, which works closely with the Japanese government.
