Australian telecommunications company Optus has appointed Betty Ivanoff to the newly established role of chief legal officer.
Optus has appointed Betty Ivanoff to the newly created role of chief legal officer. She is set to join the company on 29 September 2025 and will report directly to CEO Stephen Rue.
In her new role, Ivanoff will lead a newly formed legal and compliance business unit, which consolidates the company’s legal, privacy, and compliance functions under a single leadership structure.
In a statement, the Australian telecommunications company stated that as part of Ivanoff’s new role, she will spearhead initiatives to “strengthen governance and compliance across the company”.
Ivanoff brings more than 25 years of experience in highly regulated industries, with a career spanning executive legal roles at the NSW government, The Star, Crown Resorts, Coca-Cola Amatil, and GrainCorp.
According to Optus, she brings a strong track record in “driving legal and compliance strategy through periods of transformation and strong regulation”.
Optus CEO Stephen Rue emphasised the strategic importance of the appointment, saying Ivanoff’s deep leadership experience and demonstrated expertise will support the company in making informed business decisions while upholding strong governance.
“It is essential that we embed the highest standards of legal, compliance, and privacy controls and rigour across our business,” Rue said.
“Betty’s extensive leadership experience and proven expertise will help ensure we are consistently making the right decisions in support of our customers and strengthening trust with stakeholders and the broader community.”
Rue added: “This key appointment demonstrates our determination to build a stronger Optus, one that is transparent, accountable, and focused on doing what’s right.”
