Simon Moncrieff SC has been appointed to the Family Court of Australia. Attorney-General Robert McClelland made the announcement on August 14.
Moncrieff is the President of the Family Law Practitioners Association of Western Australia
Moncrieff replaces the Hon Justice Julienne Penny who last month retired from the Family Court of Western Australia.
After his admission as a Barrister and Solicitor to the Supreme Court of South Australia in 1975, and the High Court of Australia in 1976, Moncrieff practised as a barrister and solicitor specialising in advocacy in the Family Court of Australia (1979-1985). He then became Principal and Managing Director of Lehmann-Moncrieff (1985-1991).
In 2000 Mr Moncrieff was admitted as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of Western Australia and practised at the Western Australian Bar until his judicial appointment. Moncrieff was appointed Senior Counsel in 2008.
His appointment to the Family Court of Australia and the Family Court of Western Australia will take effect on 31 August.
Since 1987, it has been the established practice for judges of the Family Court of Western Australia to also be appointed to the Family Court of Australia.
