Mick Gooda has been appointed as the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner at the Australian Human Rights Commission.

Gooda is a descendant of the Gangulu people of central Queensland and has 25 years experience working across Australia on Indigenous issues in the public and community sectors.

He is currently the CEO of the Cooperative Research centre for Aboriginal Health is a

board member of the Centre for Rural and Remote Mental Health Queensland, and he was also previously a member of the Western Australian Premier's Advisory Council on Racial Discrimination.

Gooda, who takes up a five year term commencing in February, takes over from Tom Calma, who has served in the role since 2004.
