John Staude has been appointed as judge of the District Court of Western Australia.
Judge Staude will replace Judge Robert Mazza, who was appointed this week to the Supreme Court after six years at the District Court.
Welcoming both appointments, Law Society President Hylton said: "These appointments are well deserved for two highly experienced and respected legal practitioners who have served the justice system with unwavering integrity and dedication."
Staude was a Council member of the Law Society of Western Australia.
