Attorney-General Robert McClelland has announced twelve appointments to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.
New appointees include Chelsea Walsh, Dr. Roslyn Blakley and Kathryn Hogan as part-time members.
Those reappointed to their current positions include Stanley Hotop, Graham Friedman, Steven Penglis, Andrew Sweidan, Rodney Dunne, Brigadier Conrad Ermert (Retd), Dr. Roderick McRae and Brigadier Anthony (Gerry) Warner (Retd).
Formerly a senior associate in the taxation department of Allens Arthur Robinson, Chelsea Walsh has been appointed as a part-time senior member for Western Australia. From 1999 to 2000 Walsh worked as a tax attorney at Fried, Frank, Harris Shriver and Jacobson in New York.
A partner at Freehills, Penglis was reappointed as a part-time senior member for Western Australia, after being first appointed to the Tribunal in June 2005. Penglis was appointed as a member of the Legal Professional Complaints Committee of Western Australia in 2009 and has been an elected member of the Legal Practice Board of Western Australia since 1996.
Former Mallesons Stephen Jaques partner Sweidan was reappointed as a part-time senior member for Western Australia and has held the position since 2005. He is currently a legal consultant at Perth firm Anchor Legal which he co-founded in 2004. Prior to that, Sweidan was a partner of KPMG after being a partner at Mallesons Stephen Jaques for 10 years.
Special counsel at Adelaide firm Donaldson Walsh Rodney, Dunne was reappointed as a part-time member for South Australia after being first appointed in June 2005.
Reappointed as a full-time deputy president for Western Australia, Hotop was first appointed as an acting part-time deputy president in 2000 and was confirmed in that position in 2002. In 2005 he was appointed as a full-time deputy president for five years. He previously served as Dean of the faculty of law from 1990 to 1993 at the University of Western Australia.
Friedman was reappointed as a full-time senior member for Victoria (Vic) has been a member of the Tribunal since 2001. He was a senior member of the Migration Review Tribunal from 1999 to 2001 and a member of other government tribunals.
"I congratulate each of the appointees and wish them well in their new roles," McClelland said.
