A SOLICITOR at Adelaide firm Mellor Olsson Lawyers has used her legal qualifications to bolster the number of young migrants in South Australia.

In a case of using legal qualifications for the good of the community, Nada Najjar has undertaken qualifications to be a Registered Migration Agent in order to provide migration services for a range of visa applications. Najjar, who is fluent in Arabic, said she is one of only a few solicitors in Adelaide with the qualification.

“I have always had an interest in international law. I had exposure to migration law through my work at the Legal Services Commission and Refugee Advocacy Service and thought it was something I could bring to Mellor Olsson,” said Najjar.

“South Australia in particular can really benefit from promoting multiculturalism from a skills and economical point of view, and also in continuing to enrich our cultural diversity.

“A lot of people come here to study, and it makes sense to retain the skills that people gain here, especially when we do have a skills shortage,” she said.

The South Australian Government recently recommended to a national productivity commission study that the state should target young migrants. The state’s overseas student numbers have jumped 63 per cent in the past three years, almost double the national average, according to the latest figures from Australian Education International.
