K&L Gates senior associate Carla Vinciullo is leaving her firm of five years to join a NewLaw group in Perth.

Ms Vinciullo has been hired by Progressive Legal to establish a new employment arm for the group. She said her decision to switch from top-tier to NewLaw was driven by a desire to do things differently.

“Many lawyers of my generation are somewhat perplexed by the lack of innovation in the traditional law firm model and are increasingly exploring different, progressive ways to practise their craft,” Ms Vinciullo said.

“Progressive Legal is the law firm of the future, today.”

Progressive Legal is an online firm that caters to entrepreneurs, innovators and small businesses.

Ms Vinciullo will begin in her new role as special counsel for the legal start-up in March.

She has more than 10 years’ experience in industrial relations and employment law and joined K&L Gates from Ashurst in 2012. In 2011 the employment lawyer was seconded to the industrial relations team at Qantas.
