LINDA CREBBIN and Bill Stefaniak have been appointed as the full time presidential members of the newly formed ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

In an announcement last week, ACT Attorney-General Simon Corbell said that Crebbin will take up the role of General President, responsible for the overall administration of the tribunal and the allocation of tribunal members to hear applications. Stefaniak will be the Appeal President, responsible for referrals and appeals in the tribunal and the allocation of tribunal members to hear appeal applications.

Crebbin is currently the Children and Young People Commissioner and the Disability and Community Services Commissioner, and is a former deputy chief executive of the ACT Legal Aid Commission. Corbell has extensive experience across civil law, mental health, consumer protection, domestic violence, care and protection, family law, criminal law and commercial litigation.

Stefaniak’s experience includes serving as a private solicitor, public prosecutor and army reserve lawyer. A member of the legislative assembly, he has served in numerous portfolios, including as Attorney-General.

The new ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal will comprise four divisions: civil disputes, administrative review, occupational discipline division and a general division. According to Corbell, the tribunal intends to “improve access to justice, reduce costs and provide better support to tribunal members and registry staff.”

Part time presidential member and senior and ordinary member appointments are yet to be announced.
