The Victorian Women Lawyers and Women Barristers Association continues to take a proactive stance towards the career advancement of women in the profession, hosting a meet and greet event for Victorian solicitors and barristers at Melbourne’s exclusive Essoign Club.

Organiser Christine Melis said the annual event was “an opportunity for women to meet, greet and share a laugh”, thanks in part to he assistance of comedian Rachel Berger.

The more serious side of the evening was the opportunity for female barristers to get to know their law firm peers and to increase their opportunities for receiving briefings — particularly from colleagues working in similar practice areas.

“Every year the VWL and WBA bring their memberships together for an evening at for some relaxed networking over drinks and canapés,” Melis said. “Guests are encouraged to meet new solicitors and barristers, particularly those who share a similar practice.”
