I studied commerce/law at Deakin University. Honestly, when I thought about a career in law, I was a little bit apprehensive. I wasn’t really sure that I was capable of being a lawyer — I’d heard all these horror stories about what it was like. I thought my life would be over, I would be sleep-deprived, have no weekends and no time to play. But over the last 12 months I definitely displaced that myth. You make mistakes along the way, but you learn from these mistakes. Deacons has an open door policy so I get a lot of one-on-one support and training from all the partners, lawyers and senior associates in the environment and planning group. A typical day involves drafting letters, speaking with clients, instructing at VCAT, and researching. I couldn’t be happier with my career choice. Every day is challenging and rewarding. Life in the law definitely exceeds all expectations.
