DLA Phillips Fox solicitor Ana-Mari Martinez has been certified as a Green Star Accredited Professional by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA).

Martinez, a former architect who is now a member of DLA Phillips Fox's Melbourne major projects team, says there are few legal practitioners who have gained the accreditation. "I hope to use this knowledge to assist our clients to better navigate this process from the legal perspective and manage the risk involved in contract documents," she said.

Green Star is an environmental rating scheme, developed by the GBCA that evaluates the environmental design and achievements of buildings. There are now more than 100 projects that have received Green Star accreditation and many more are in the process of seeking accreditation.

To gain the accreditation, an individual must demonstrate that they understand the Green Star environmental rating system and the Green Star Office Design Rating Tool and their application to the design and construction phase of the project for all parties involved.
