The founder and chairman of the event, Berrick Wilson, said the timing of the ride is particularly pertinent for the two charities. "Time might be tough in business, but kids who are unwell or disabled still need our help and support regardless."

A number of notable lawyers will be representing the profession on the ride, including Michael Byrom, managing partner of Holding Redlich Lawyers in Brisbane, Arnold Block Leibler partner Alex King and Rob Hinton, a partner at Gadens Lawyers.

Byrom will be riding the event for his second year. He completed it in 2008 after a number of staff from his firm gave their support by training alongside him in the lead-up to the ride.

Hinton also completed his first Tasmania ride last year, with the banking and finance litigation partner using regular cycling as a respite from the stress he encounters on the job.

King, meanwhile, a commercial litigation and dispute resolution partner, will ride in Tasmania for the first time, after only recently getting involved in cycling in a bid to avoid what he calls the "middle-age body spread".

The lawyers will join teams of six to circumnavigate Tasmania by riding 1000 kilometers in seven days. The ride begins in Launceston and travels down the east coast of Tasmanian.
