NSW Young Lawyers launched the Human Rights Opportunities Database this week, to give practitioners and students information on how to pursue a career in human rights.

Launched at NSW Parliament House by NSW Attorney-General John Hatzistergos, the database pulls in a list of about 300 organisations and institutions both locally and abroad, advertising paid, unpaid and internship positions to people interested in human rights work.

Hatzistergos said that with a greater need for, and understanding of, human rights work in Australia, the database could assist in making it easier for the public to engage in human rights work.

The database was created by Claire Hammerton, current chair of the Human Rights Committee, following observations that Australia lacked a comprehensive catalogue of human rights employment and internship openings.
