THE SUPREME Court of NSW is in for a facelift, with NSW Attorney General John Hatzistergos announcing recently that a new $2 million dollar civil court courtroom will be built.

The new courtroom will measure 220 square metres — nearly twice the size of a standard courtroom — which will enable it to easily accommodate large-scale hearings such as C7, One.Tel, and HIH, Hatzistergos said. The project forms part of a two-year redevelopment of the ninth floor of the Queens Square Law Courts in the Sydney CBD.

According to Hatzistergos, this is just one of a number of court-related projects on the agenda for the 2008-2009 financial year in New South Wales, which will together cost $46.1 million.

These include a $13-million revamping of the Parramatta courthouse (which follows the recent completion of the new $330-million Parramatta Justice Precinct), the establishment of a $2.5-million new calls complex at Goulburn Courthouse and a $2-million injection into the Dubbo courthouse upgrade.
