Ten Chinese lawyers have descended on Canberra today, marking the beginning of a three-month Australian sojourn in which they will gain practical experience in the Australian legal profession.
President of the Law Council of Australia, Glenn Ferguson, said the program, which is a joint initiative between the Law Council of Australia, the International Legal Services Advisory Council, the All China Lawyers' Association and the Chinese Ministry of Justice, is aimed at fostering understanding and goodwill between the two countries.
"The Law Council greatly values its relationship with the legal profession in China," he said.
"China and Hong Kong alone account for more than 15 per cent of Australia's international market for legal services. The success of this program demonstrates the strong relationship between the Australian and Chinese legal professions."
The new arrivals are the fourth group to take part in the program, which has been hailed as a great success in previous years.
