People affected by the Victorian flood disaster will be eligible to access free legal advice, the Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) announced today (6 September).

LIV President Steven Stevens said the legal profession was keen to do whatever it could to help people with urgent legal needs.

"Our experience is that people will have all sorts of legal issues, and don't know where to go for help," he said.

Stevens is urging those affected by the floods to call the LIV for a referral to a local lawyer who can help them.

"Lawyers are part of the community and have experience in providing this sort of advice after other natural disasters such as bushfires," Stevens said.

The LIV anticipates that people will need help with insurance issues, missing documents, employment issues or problems with service providers.

Those seeking legal advice can also go to www.liv.asn.au/referral or send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
