An aspiring banking and finance lawyer has been given the opportunity of the lifetime, receiving a $50,000 Banking & Financial Services Law Association (BFSLA) scholarship to undertake postgraduate study at the University of Oxford.

Mallesons' solicitor William Lam was presented with the scholarship at the annual BFSLA conference held in Queenstown over the 15th and 16th of August.

Lam said the opportunity to study at Oxford and to read for the Bachelor of Civil Law has been a long-time aspiration and he is looking forward to taking the next step in his career.

"I am sure this will be an intellectually stimulating, challenging and exciting experience and I am very grateful to be able to pursue my dream of studying law at Oxford," said Lam.

Lam began his career as a summer clerk at Mallesons in 2005. After graduating from the University of Sydney in 2006, he returned to Mallesons as a solicitor in the banking and finance practice.
