The Queensland legal community is moving quickly to help ease the difficulties being faced by Queensland communities as a result of the devastating floods.

The Queensland Law Society (QLS) is currently working with Attorney-General Cameron Dick, as well as other legal services, to decipher how the legal profession can best assist Queensland flood victims. QLS chief executive officer Noela L'Estrange told members of the legal profession on Friday that further announcements will be made in the coming days as to how the legal community will work together to assist affected communities.

In the meantime, the Attorney-General has waived certificate replacement fees for those who have lost important identification documents, while Legal Aid Queensland has developed a fact sheet for easy access advice on submitting insurance claims.

In addition, pro bono telephone counselling to legal practitioners and their families and friends affected by the floods is being offered by Assure Programs - a provider of business psychology services.

Legal publishers LexisNexis Australia have also provided businesses operating in flood-affected regions with 60 days of complimentary access to online research services.
